How do you use abstraction laddering?

faq faq icon

Abstraction laddering is a tool for framing problems more skillfully. It is particularly useful for helping you define a problem in a way that you can work towards solving it. With abstraction laddering, your thinking will be clearer, and you will get beyond the problem statement. This tool makes you able to ask the right questions to move up and down the ladder. Moving up to expand the scope, moving down to develop concrete solutions.

What are the 4 levels of abstraction laddering?

faq faq icon

Abstraction laddering is mainly about, how to build the right question and stick to it.
Abstraction laddering can be done in 4 main levels:
- At the top of the ladder, start with creating the “problem statement”.
- To elicit more abstract problem statements, ask "why".
- To move toward a more tangible solution, ask "how".
- Put it to practice.

How do you create a problem statement?

faq faq icon

A problem statement communicates the extent of the issue, the facts, and the resources required to solve it. Thus, it needs to present a clear, concise picture of what the problem is and why it exists. These are the easy tips to write a clear and concise problem statement:
- There are some general basic templates that can be followed when writing the problem statement, these templates always include:
The problem - Background - Relevance - Objectives.
- Regardless of the chosen template, the problem statement should have its 2 main elements:
Problem Framing ( Frame the context - Analyze forces - Explore options ).
Solution Finding (Envision your Future - Decide on bold steps ).

At which stage, the problem statement is made?

faq faq icon

During the 5 stages of Design Thinking (Empathize-Define-Ideate -Prototype-Testing). The problem Statement is the core of the 2nd stage of defining. This occurs when we organize, interpret, and make meaning for the information we have gathered to formulate a problem statement during the define stage .

What does it means to “frame the problem” ? (Question framing is wrong)

The problem framing simply covers 3 main aspects around the problem your business is facing:
- Frame the context : What is changing in your business?
